Biography

Beat Lechmann heads external innovation in R&D at DePuy Synthes companies of Johnson & Johnson. Beat began his career in the medical field in 1993 with the AO/ASIF Development Institute. In 1999, Beat assumed the role of head of Spine product development and roles of increasing responsibility for the Spine platforms, first within Mathys and then for Synthes post‐merger. Beat’s leadership in Spine innovation culminated in the role of Head of Spine Innovations and Degenerative, in which he led a team focused on the exploration of new treatment concepts and technologies for the surgical treatment of the spine and other degenerative musculoskeletal diseases.

Beat’s following role has been the Director of Product Development in the field of “Soft Tissue Solutions,” with the responsibility to start‐up a new business unit and product offering for the surgical treatment of sports injuries and other degenerative soft tissue conditions. Beat is named inventor on 36 issued U.S. patents and investigator on 8 published scientific posters and publications. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Applied Science, Division Micro Mechanics and a Degree in Industrial Engineering. He is active member in various Advisory Boards and Program Committees.
